"When Henry Ford made cheap, reliable cars people said, 'Nah, what's wrong with a horse?' That was a huge bet he made, and it worked."

Trailblazing Initiatives Adopted Beyond Local Council
-
Instigated the creation of a universal database field in Blackbaud CRM to support improved crisis communications to council stakeholders. Utilizing this field, I drafted personalized communications sent on behalf of Scout Executive and through Constant Contact to provide accurate and timely context to contentious and potentially damaging media reports of national bankruptcy developments and membership standards changes. This system was also activated to support understanding of how our work is continuing during the present COVID-19 outbreak.
-
Founded the Young Professional Scouts alumni organization in 2012 and Gentleman’s Merit Badge Series® networking events, which were adopted in varying degrees by 10 other local councils to engage and involve Millennial and Gen X alumni.
-
Successfully cultivated an executive committee that has planned more than 10 events and service opportunities annually, reaching nearly 200 previously inactive alumni.
-
Selected by National Council to present at national 2014 Girl Scout Convention on the topic of young alumni engagement.
-
Invited to 2014 Area 5 Summit to present best practices.
Truly "Special" Events and Outreach through Collaboration
-
Rebranded the Cradle of Liberty Gala and Distinguished Citizen Dinner as the Corporate Campfire Gala in 2018, incorporating a 20-minute theatrical Scout-led campfire program that put Scouting in the Outing!
-
Developed and secured underwriting support for Corporate "VIPinewood Derby Raception" at the 2015 Cradle of Liberty Gala to excite and engage dispassionate corporate stakeholders.
-
Within 18 months of beginning my Scouting career at Old North State Council, successfully hired and managed a for-credit intern to aid in developing collateral for inaugural special event. Courted Chick-fil-A underwriting support of resulting corporate dodgeball tournament that generated nearly $10,000 in annual support from businesses and student groups at Elon University in North Carolina.
-
Initiated and facilitated a partnership between a North Carolina Alpha Phi Omega chapter and a pediatrician to establish and maintain the council’s sole and self-sufficient Soccer and Scouting Latino outreach.
Conservation-Minded
Business Plan
-
Transformed Cherokee Scout Reservation’s stewardship of natural resources by implementing a multifaceted conservation campaign that reduced energy consumption and waste generation, and led to hands-on program opportunities for Scouts while decreasing seasonal budget. Key elements included creating a Troop of the Week Competition Board that rewarded units that participated in voluntary "Green" item collections. In two seasons we outfitted the entire camp with energy efficient bulbs and replaced disposable plastic cutlery with reusable silverware without any cost. Other projects included:
-
Grant-funded "Victory Garden" and implementation of Gardening Merit Badge and farm-to-table produce utilized by Cooking Merit Badge.
-
Scout-run composting program at all meals through Nature Center, which eliminated need and cost for unnecessary dumpster pickup.
-
Replacement of napkins with "BBQ Style" disposable towel dispensers at each table.
